The Sojourners Nest has been built out of a life, forever in transition.

For a girl who said she would never leave Scotland, life has taken me on unexpected journeys, allowing me to experience home on five continents, nine countries, twenty-nine houses, and three U.S States! Home is everywhere and nowhere!

Journeying in the in-between worlds of loving and leaving. Homesickness and feeling at home.  Settled and unsettled. And realizing that it doesn’t always have to be one or the other. Living in the reality of both at the same time becomes a normal rhythm of life.  In the lauds and the laments, I have discovered that change is a rhythm of life that has prepared me for this time and place. And perhaps there are many more who share this common bond!

Maybe you live or grew up outside of your passport country, or, like me, hold more than one passport, have moved across cultures, or identify as a third culture kid.

For some of you here, perhaps you find yourself in a place of transition. Possibly gearing up and packing for a new adventure, or having just ended one, and re-entry is not the soft landing you imagined?

Maybe you’ve recently departed from one country and arrived in a new one, and the landing is hard?

It could be that you’ve been in a place a while, but you’re still not settled.

And even for those that stay, the constant rhythm of those coming and going can be wearying, and it can feel like “home” is always changing.

Or what if circumstances have changed, and you’re beginning to wonder what is next?

It could be that you’ve made connections and will marry or have married someone from another culture, and the trajectory of life will be forever different.

The nest may be empty or missing a kiddo.

It might even be that you’ve hit some turbulence and have had to take an unexpected detour or furlough to refuel.

Maybe you’re waiting on standby for another journey or exiting the overseas life?

All of these resonate with me! Because of these unique experiences, there’s often a need for a place for camaraderie and kinship, for musing and meditating, for release and resolve.

A shelter for connecting, a haven for reflecting, a refuge for untangling.
